Chapter 13

FAMILY

(Genesis 3:1)

Kelly stared at the great hand in the front of the auditorium where she had attended college. Every word was beautifully written on the huge blackboard. A tall handsome man came up to the podium and played his musical instruments while the hand created.

“Why do you love these pitiful creatures? Aren’t we, your faithful, enough to satisfy your love, Father?” the man questioned jealously.

“Your music is lovely, but why do you question my Word? Have I not given you all you have ever needed or wanted, including my adoring love for you?” asked God.

“Yes, Father, but these tiny beings will prove to be a huge disappointment to you, and they can never give you the adoration that you deserve,” he warned.

The hand turned and gestured at Lucifer lovingly, and then he pointed to Kelly, sitting all alone in the auditorium.

“You are wrong, Lucifer. My Son has already proved you wrong,” God said in a quiet voice but loud enough to fill the room.

Suddenly, Kelly found herself running toward the front of the auditorium, wanting to embrace him. As she ran, the room became a beautiful white-sand beach. The sky was dark. The water was dark blue-green, almost black. The waves gently caressed the shoreline.

Then the sky was filled with blinding light. All the colors of the rainbow filled Kelly’s mind. Her eyes beheld the sharpest, clearest sight, and it not only filled her eyes, but it filled her entire being all at once. Her eyes squinted and slowly adjusted to the sunlight. The bluest sky filled the atmosphere about her. The moon stood white as a sentinel, waiting to announce the evening stars. Dolphins played in the water, jumping and splashing and making clicking noises that welcomed her.

Kelly stopped running and slowed down to a walk. She had not seen anyone until now. A man and a woman were kneeling beside a young man who lay motionless on the sand. They were in mourning.

The waves crashed on the shore, pounding its wrath on each tiny grain of sand. The three people were clothed in animal skins that covered their nakedness. Kelly ran over and knelt down to help but all she could do was give them comfort for the young man was not breathing.

“What is his name?” was all that Kelly could speak as her heart went out to the father and mother as they wept over their son.

“His name is Abel,” the father said slowly turning to look at Kelly. He didn’t say another word to her. He just stared into her eyes. Kelly felt it all; all the sorrow a parent feels when their child is taken from them. She felt all the anguish that permeated Adam and Eve’s unified body with gut wrenching emotions that would never really go away. This pain would last throughout mankind’s temporal existence until the final hour when the King of Kings would return not as the sacrificial Lamb of God but as the Lion of Judah who comes to reign over His kingdom.
